upright

The first thing people want to know about us now is, are we walking? While both Wyn and I are very good at standing up unsupported and cruising on furniture and even walls, we haven't made that leap quite yet. If you must know, we've decided to take a little detour on the road to walking. We call it the Pee-Wee Knee Spree (okay, Mom just made that up). It involves pulling along with one leg while the other knee scoots on the ground. I sometimes utilize the optional Hand Stabilizer, as shown above.

This method of mobility shares many of the advantages of walking, including the unencumbered use of one (left photo) or two (right) hands. We rather like getting around this way. So for now, walking can wait.

easter festivities

Our friends Jay and Mary Beth invited us over for Easter dinner yesterday. And boy, are we glad we went. We ate lots of yummy food and presided over some very stimulating conversation. Topics ranged from Napoleon Dynamite to opera, so you know a good time was had by all.

Here's another bit of dialogue from the party:

WYN: Why, Mary Beth, what beautiful hair you have! It's the same color as mine.
MARY BETH: I know! How cool is that!??!!
JAY (OFF CAMERA): This is freakin' me out. Don't let my parents see this picture.
[FADE TO BLACK]

Thanks for inviting us over, Jay and Mary Beth!

caught in the act

Alright. You got us. We pretend to fight all the time, but in actuality we quite enjoy working together for the common good. Like when it comes to emptying the Lego bin. This is something that must be done each day, and there are no less than 75 individual blocks to be dealt with. Cooperation, we've recently discovered, is the key to success. It all works out pretty well...at least until one of us gets hit in the face with an airborne Lego.

another injury

Okay, this is much less scary than the combined first impression of the title and photo. It's just raspberry juice! (Note: Bright red berries may not be the best choice for toddler finger food.) However, the red mark next to my brother's right eye is a cut. Needless to say, Mom really freaked out over this one. Yikes. But Zak is just fine. Really. So how'd it happen, you ask? Let's just say that the coffee table corner guards we so diligently peeled off may have had a legitimate purpose after all.

On an unrelated note: we taught Daddy how to create his very own blog! Check it out here.

it's a real zoo around here

This is Barry. He's taken to hanging out on our deck. Isn't he cute? Wyn and I really want to pull on his big fuzzy tail. And Riley? She wants to eat him up. Literally. They tangled last night after Dad took her for a walk (which explains ol' Barry's position in the above photo). Don't be scared, Barry! We'll protect you.

Paternal Parental Disclaimer: No actual children will be allowed to touch a wild, possibly rabid animal.
Maternal Parental Disclaimer Response: He doesn't have rabies. Can I please pet him?

back to our old selves

Happy Monday! It gives me great pleasure to announce that Zak and I are feeling great. Actually, we started improving right after our last blog entry. So take that, MMR vaccine!

One of our favorite games now is "Find the Ball." Mom says, "Hey Zak. Hey Wyn. Where's the ball?" And we both laugh maniacally as we crawl towards the big red ball and/or the big purple ball. Then we lift said balls up in the air and hurl them forward or possibly backward, depending on our mood. Sometimes Mom asks "Where's the truck?" or "Where's the puzzle?" She's so silly. We know she means to say "Where's the ball?" -- so that's what we go find. Every time. (The only exception is "Where's Squishy Piggy?" That we get.)

And here we are trying a new game called "Let's See if We Can Open the Back Door."

not happy, day 5

I'm sorry to report that there has been a lot of unpleasantness around here lately. Fevers. Rashes. General crabbiness. Let's just say Wyn and I are not big fans of the MMR vaccine we got two weeks ago. Hopefully we'll have happy news and cute pictures soon.

automobiles

Yesterday we went to look at some potential new homes west of the city. We didn't find this all that interesting. However, Zak and I did wake up just in time to see the best of Berwyn, Illinois:

We begged and begged Mom and Dad to let us get out and see if we could knock this over. We're really good at obliterating stacks of blocks, so we figured it would be a cinch. But noooooooo. They wouldn't even let us try. And thus, the entire excursion was a bust.

high chairs, no. coffee table, yes.

While Wyn and I have decided to end our Sippy Cup Mutiny, we still won't touch them when we're in our high chairs. But if Mom places the cups on the coffee table, we'll happily gulp away.

birthday jamboree

Our belated first birthday party took place yesterday. It was a whole lotta fun! Our guests included Cousin Sam and our friends Joe and Hunter. Oh yeah, we let their parents come too.

I asked Mom and Joe to help us open presents, as Zak and I are still working out the mechanics of our opposable thumbs. We received lots of neat boxes, bags and pieces of tissue paper, as well as some awesome gifts!

Later, birthday cupcakes were ceremoniously dumped on our trays while everyone stared at us expectantly. Zak and I had two words for these gooey confections: Not. Interested. Finally I smeared some icing on my face, and that seemed to appease our unruly audience.

It sure was a great party. We especially enjoyed hanging out with Sam, who told us that this getting older thing just gets better and better (and he should know; he's almost two!). Thanks everyone for coming to our party and for our gifts! We love you all.

dental check-up

Hello, me again. As you can see, my terrible facial laceration is on the mend. I've been rubbing spaghetti sauce in it to speed the healing process. Anyway...Wyn and I were just discussing the fact that we haven't offered an update on our many dental developments. So, here's the rundown:

Me: Two middle bottom teeth in, left bottom tooth coming in, top middle left tooth coming in
Wyn: Two middle bottom teeth in, right bottom tooth coming in, two middle top teeth really coming in, right top tooth coming in

Okay, that's kind of confusing when it's all typed out. Oh well. The point is, our chompers are sprouting big time. Fun!
