pumpkinfish

Today we experienced Halloween, which let me tell you is one special holiday. Sure, we've been through Labor Day and Arbor Day, but since we don't work and trees tend to taste funny, we couldn't understand all the fuss over this holiday thing. Halloween is different, however. This holiday is genius.

Here's how it works: Grandma Lipsey sends us very cool costumes. Wyn gets to be a fish and I get to be a pumpkin, which is neat because we've never been fish or pumpkins before. Then, we meet up with our cousin Sam, Uncle Stephan and Aunt Marjorie. Sam gets to dress as a benevolent dragon. Then, we tour the neighborhood, knocking on everyone's door. People come outside, tell us how cute we are [it's self-evident, but hearing it never gets old -- Wyn], and then give us candy.

Then we come home and go to bed, at which point Mom and Dad pig out on chocolate. Like I said, there's no downside to this one.

Finally, here is my brother faithfully re-enacting a critical moment in evolutionary biology.

crawling!

It's official. As of yesterday, I am crawling (forward). And I mean booking it. All Mom has to do is set her magic water cup across the room, and I'll zip over to it as fast as I can. I'll crawl right over my brother if necessary. Speaking of Zak, he wants me to tell you that he's waiting for just the right moment to graduate from creeping to crawling. It won't be long, that's for sure. He's not too keen on me winning all of our races.

peekaboo

Here's one that is sure to turn the grandparents to butter. Wyn and I love it when Mom and Dad play peekaboo with us. Well, tonight we discovered that we can play with each other. Not only that, but we let Mom capture it all on video. So, click here to watch a short segment.

P.S. Today is our 8-month birthday.

socializing

This weekend, Zak and I went to our friend Dahlia's house for a party. We decided to let Mom and Dad tag along, even though they're not nearly as cool and hip as we are. Unfortunately, the anticipation of the party kept us from taking our afternoon nap. Thus the slightly perturbed expressions on our faces (I'm on the left).

On a happier note, this is Chen. Mommy used to work with him at Frankel. He's just one of the many interesting people we got to hang out with. Thanks for inviting us over, Dahlia! We hope to see you again soon.

four men and a mom

Most weekday mornings, it's just us two men and Mom (and Riley, but she doesn't count). However, today the odds were even more in our favor when Cousin Sam and Uncle Stephan came over for a visit. It was testosterone city. Sam played ball and chugged from a sippy cup. Wyn did some leg lifts. I growled like a bear. And Uncle Stephan wore flannel. Too bad Daddy was at work...he could've talked about the Red Sox or something. Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and we hope to do it again real soon.

steak 'n shake

Tonight, Mom and Dad took us to an upscale dining establishment called Steak 'n Shake. The manager offered to let Zak and me run the grill and make shakes, but that seemed like too much work. So we just wore the hats.

hangin' on the deck

Here are Zak and I in a rare moment of repose. We're very, very wiggly these days. When Mom or Dad try to rock us, we just want to grab their glasses and pull their hair (Mom's is much easier to yank, but Dad's will do in a pinch). When they read to us, we practice crawling backwards. And when Mom gives us a bath, look out. She ends up as soaked as we are! But we make up for all these shenanigans by being adorably cute and precious, as you can see here.

And yes, our hair looks really red in the sunlight.

b-b-b-b-bad

On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round,
And they gazed in wide wonder at the joy they had found.
The head nurse spoke up. Said leave this one alone.
She could tell right away that I was bad to the bone.
B-B-B-B-Bad.
B-B-B-B-Bad.
Bad to the bone.

gnilwarc

Yes, the rumors are true. I'm crawling...backwards. And I'm just fine with that. It hasn't really occured to me that this is my ticket to freedom; it's just a fun thing to do. All the time. Especially while Mom's reading to us...as you'll see in the video. Speaking of the video, click here to see it!

zak's turn

You may have been wondering where the pictures of me up on my hands and knees have been. The truth is, I've had a little practical joke going. Every time I see Mom or Dad lunging for the camera when I'm pushing up -- alakazam! -- I immediately stop and strike my Signature Pose instead. As a result, there are about 67 shots of me in my Signature Pose, and one of me on my hands and knees.

Ha! Foiled again.

uh-oh

Well, Zak and I keep getting better and better at getting up on our hands and knees. We're doing it all the time now. I'm also becoming more and more convinced that we're onto something special here. Whenever we push up like this and start rocking back and forth, Mom and Dad look at each other and say things like "uh-oh," "oh-boy," or sometimes "it won't be long now." So obviously, this is something worth pursuing. We'll keep you posted once we've got it figured out.
